Fairs being held in Bastia Umbra is documented since the 1800s with the organisation of livestock fairs that attracted breeders and farmers from all over the central valley of Umbria.
In 1969 came the first “modern fair” – it was the Agricultural Fair, organised with a strong regional impact. The organisational intuition and skills of the members of the Bastia Fair Committee led to an increase in exhibitors and visitors as well as the emergence of other events.
In 1980, as part of the planning behind construction of the exhibition centre, the Associazione Regionale Manifestazioni Fieristiche Agriumbria was founded, which managed the marked development of the Exhibition Centre until the end of 1998.
Indeed, the considerable size achieved and the strength of the economic impact produced prompted the transformation of the managing body into Umbriafiere SpA, a joint-share company today recognised as the Regional Exhibition Entity.
It is impossible to forget Lodovico Maschiella, the man who realised the importance and potential of the trade fair market in Umbria. Indeed, the facilities of the Regional Exhibition Centre are dedicated to him.
